What I Wore: To Nashville

Well, we are on our way to Nashville as I type this! I got off work, got ready, packed a bag, and ran out in my backyard to snap a few outfit photos in a whirlwind before jumping in the car to get on the road! We are heading down for the UK football game (note: the blue outfit!) on Saturday. We decided to leave a little early so we could have a bit of time to hang out in Nashville. We’re meeting Jackson & Kristie and will be staying with some friends tonight. I’ve never really had the chance to spend any time in Nashville so I’m pretty excited!
This top is a thrift find from last weekend. I almost put it down because I didn’t feel like trying it on and I am so glad I didn’t! It fits perfectly - $3 well spent! I’ve had this Forever21 skirt for a long time. It rarely gets worn until UK football season comes back around. The UK blue is perfect! Nate joked that I should have worn this to the game tomorrow but I think I’ll be more comfy in shorts and my new UK t-shirt. But tonight - people will probably be able to guess that we’re in town for the game! =)

Keeping up with a blog is a difficult task when you have a full time job, a husband, friends - a life. I used to be good at it, not great, but certainly moving forward. I used to stay up late on weeknights editing photos and scheduling posts. I used to put forth the extra effort to take outfit pictures even when I wasn’t feeling it. I used to speak my mind a little more candidly without thinking about how a stranger might misinterpret my words. I could put the blame on a lot of different life changes (like my new position at work) but if we’re being honest: I think I’ve been acting a little entitled to having a blog following.

I would say that my ideas for this space and the connections that I have made within the blogging world have grown leaps and bounds over the past year - but my stats don’t reflect that at all. Why? Because I’ve only been putting in the bare minimum effort when it comes to posting regularly, setting/meeting goals, coming up with interesting content, responding to comments, and social networking with other bloggers. I’ve been doing this blogging thing for so long that I’ve started to act like I shouldn’t have to work for it. I’m really frustrated with myself because every time I start to succeed at something I tend to let it fall by the wayside. I feel like I have more of a handle on how to run a successful blog now than I ever have and yet there’s almost nothing that I could show you that would point to that as true.

I don’t blame anyone who has jumped ship during this time. It’s been so stale around here and I feel like I owe my readers an apology for expecting them to continue to flock to my blog and comment on things that don’t really stand out or demand attention. It’s time to quit feeling entitled to having followers, sponsors, page views, and comments just because I’ve been around a while or because I’ve worked with a few brands. I could say I don’t care about the numbers but that would be a lie because some of my goals are business oriented. I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. I firmly believe in staying true to myself and my blogging style and if no one ever read my blog I’d still keep at it - but setting a goal to grow my readership and open up more opportunities for myself is definitely something I’m happy to work toward and not ashamed to admit!

I didn’t have to write all of this out and I know that. I could have just made a mental note and started making plans to move forward, be better, work harder. The thing is - I just kind of miss being open with you guys! I hope y’all will give me another chance! And I apologize if anyone feels like this now. ;]

Featured Sponsor: Peony + A Giveaway Winner!

Hi friends! Today I’d like to introduce you to my featured sponsor, Jessica of Peony! I asked her to share a little bit about her blog and a few other random things - just so you guys can get to know her a little better! Trust me, she’s pretty rad! You’ll definitely want to pop over to her blog and check her out!!

1. Tell my readers in three or four sentences a little bit about you and your blog! Peony is a little lifestyle blog and nothing more than a place for me to collect and share bits of my life as well as things that make me tick. I post about everything from daily happenings, music I’m digging, shoes I have to have, humor and sometimes even my feelings! ;)

2. Share a photo you’ve taken that stands out in your mind as one of your favorites.

This is one of my favorite photos I’ve taken because it’s the view from my room at my parent’s house. It really reminds me of, well, home and summertime. Summertime is my favorite.

3. If you could buy any piece of clothing right now what would it be?

If I could buy any piece of clothing right now it would be this vintage Dior wedding dress. I’m not one of those “can’t wait to be a bride” girls and I’m not getting married anytime soon. I just love, love, LOVE this dress. I actually never thought I’d want a wedding until I saw this dress on Pinterest.

4. How long have you been blogging and what keeps you motivated to continue blogging?

I started blogging a little over two years ago. However, all my posts up until 7 months ago are photoless due to a web album disaster that I’ve been too lazy to fix. I continue blogging for a few reasons: I love having a place to collect and share my words and photos, I love designing how my blog looks regardless of how simple and non-professional it may be and I’ve fallen in love with the blogging community… Well, most of it #hatersgonnahate.

5. What is your favorite DIY project that you’ve tried/done?

I’m not the most crafty person so my DIYs are always on the simpler side. Just recently, though, I found a stick that looks like antlers and created a faux taxidermy mount that I’m obsessed with.

6. Are there any blogs that you read without fail?

There are a few blogs I read without fail. Brissa’s blog, A Beautiful Mess - Those girls are such an inspiration, so freakin’ creative and the whole Tremma love story is too cute for me to even handle.

7. If you could move anywhere, where would you live?

If I could move anywhere it would be somewhere with a sunny, but mild climate. I’ve always lived in Seattle and while I love the constant grey drizzle, something else would be nice for a bit. Oh, and it would have to be near the ocean. Land lock = claustrophobia.

8. Show us your pretty face!

Here’s my face, yo ^^

9. Share a recent Pinterest pin that you love.

One of my favorite pins recently is of this Vintage Jadeite Green Bradley Rhinestone Alarm Clock. It’s already sold from the Etsy shop that was selling it, but I’ve made it my life mission to find one exactly like it. Yes, my life mission.

10. Any inspiring words to leave us with?

I just want to say when it comes to blogging the best thing you can do is be unapologetically you. Not everyone is going to like it and you might get a few unfollows, but those who do like you for you will like you that much more. Oh, and laughter is the best medicine. Duh.

Secret Beach

Whew! I’ve been buried at work for the past couple of weeks and have been living/breathing conference calls and spreadsheets. Sounds like fun, right?! A project that was kind of my baby just came to an end and I received the “Great job!” confirmation that I desperately needed to hear! I feel about 1000lbs lighter this weekend, let me tell ya!
Maiedae Mixer a few months ago and walked out of the store with 3 dresses - this minty dress by Pinky is one of them! I’d feel guilty, but all three of them cost the same price as any ONE of the dresses I looked at purchasing in any other store! It fits me like a dream and the flower cut out detail is the perfect little accent to a solid color dress. There is a butterfly pattern on the material but honestly I didn’t even notice that until I got home. I still can’t believe I didn’t notice it in the store but you really can’t even tell unless you see it up close in the right light. I honestly wish it came in several different colors because it is the perfect length for me and my long legs!

And this bag - this bag. I’ve never been much of a designer handbag kind of girl, but this vintage Coach bag has stolen my heart. My Mom volunteers at a vintage boutique in my home town and while I was home we went in so she could show me around and I saw it - love at first sight. She offered to get it for me with her store credit and discount as an early birthday present. What a great birthday, right?!

I would love to be able to stop in at the beach for outfit photos on our way out to dinner or wherever just any old time! That would never get old. We would know to beware of baby stingrays next time though! We looked down in the water during one of our shots together and there he was- right where we had just been standing in the water. Eek!! I grew up in Florida and I have never been stung by any type of sea life. That would have been a brutal first time!
I’m feeling rejuvenated and ready to go into this week! Outfit posts have been sort of non-existant around here over the past few months. I’m finally starting to feel inspired again when it comes to remixing items I already have and thrifting new key pieces - hooray! It’s about time!
