Boyd Orchards 2014

Boyd Orchards 2014
Nate and I went with his Mom, Grandparents, Sisters, and their families to Boyd Orchards last weekend. We went for the first time last year and it was so much fun. I had never been to an orchard or a pumpkin patch before (that I can remember) and I loved it! Last year we picked an insane amount of apples and had some trouble using them all. So we played it safe and helped the others pick theirs. We decided we’d be plenty happy with some apple cider and apple cider donuts! Of course in the end other family members pawned apples off on us because they had picked too many! ;] (I guess that was my plan all along!) I had my first apple cider slushy this year and man oh man.. I am hooked. We didn’t pick out a pumpkin so I’m thinking we might need to go back one more time! I really just need a reason to go back for another slushy.

This is where I start waxing poetic about the weather, because it really has been fantastic. I get really emotional about being able to open all of the windows and let the breeze blow all throughout the house. Ha. Every single year. It was actually a little warm on Saturday at the orchard. I put on what I deemed the perfect apple picking outfit, got out there, and after a while of walking in the sun I was burning up. That’s what I get for trying to rush the fall weather! I am happy to report that the last few days have been nice and cool. Speaking of getting emotional – how wonderful is this photo below of my niece and her great grandma? SO sweet.

Slow Weekends

My Favorite Light
Nate and I have been go, go, go the past couple of weeks. Last Sunday was kind of a slow day and it felt just right after a long day of tailgating with friends. Nate got up and did his normal ridiculously early things and I slept in. He came back to “take a nap” though, and we stayed in our dimly lit room well into the afternoon. Is there anything better than taking some time to just roll around in and out of consciousness with your favorite person in the middle of the day? No. No there isn’t. This past week went by fairly quickly and I found myself waking up to another weekend today. Saturday started early for me. I was up at 9AM for aerial classes and home by noon. When I pulled into the driveway today I marveled at my pretty little front porch. I bought gorgeous golden colored mums last night and put them in my hanging baskets. I hung up my tiny little fall wreath this evening and sat outside for a while in the crisp air. Fall has officially moved in and I feel like these photos are the last bits of summer.

I’ve been trying to step back and make time for everything important. Truly important. I see so many people sleepwalking through their daily routines, not making time for anything but their worries. Y’all stop it, okay? Make a conscious choice to call up someone who’d be surprised to hear from you, to go run around outside with your camera, to take a class, to twirl around in a pretty dress, to figure out how to make better iced coffee at home than you can get at a coffee shop, to cook and eat delicious meals every night a couple of times a week, to make at least ONE of those DIY’s you’ve pinned on Pinterest… I’m talking to myself, too. Fill every minute that you are awake with something good, something that makes you feel alive. But then give yourself a little break if you never get to those Pinterest pins, because we’re never going to have time to make all of that shit, are we?

Tonight we are at home – hanging out, watching football, doing yoga, having a few beers, relaxing. I’m enjoying the simplicity of it because I know the next few weekends will be filled with weddings and trips out of town. Lots of things to look forward to but lots of time spent on the move! Have a great weekend friends!

PS: I’m thinking of using my Tumblr a bit more again. Do you have a Tumblr? Leave your link in the comments!

Live On Coffee and Flowers.

Live On Coffee and Flowers
This has been a full summer. A summer full of just being a twenty-six year old, which I’ve decided, is kind of a weird age. On the one hand it feels a little bit like I should be spending my free time budgeting and meal planning but on the other I know that these next few years may be the last before we have real responsibilities. So, I fall somewhere in the middle of being a truly responsible adult and someone who stays out a little later than they should on a week night. And I’m mostly okay with it, because I’m having the time of my life with my husband this summer. Plus, our idea of staying out late is typically like.. 10:30pm. ;]

Just last week my cousin, Ellen, came up from Florida to stay with us for a few days while Nate and I had some time off of work. Nate and I went to Warped Tour right before she got here and then we all went to Forecastle. It was a blast! It was so great to spend some time with her and show her around Lexington! We stayed up until 5am sitting on my kitchen counters talking all night, just like we used to do when were kids (minus the Strawberitas). Every now and then I can recognize a period of time in my life that I know I’ll never forget. I think these past few months are on my list of treasured memories and I think the next few will probably make the cut, too. I’m not trying to wish away our wonderful summer weather but I see a pretty fantastic fall ahead of us!

Ashland and Celebrating Little Victories

These pictures are from January. This was the last day I can remember it being truly warm enough to walk around outside without a coat on before the extremely freezing temps swept through Kentucky. We’ve made it through the worst of the cold days and we’ve even had a 70 degree day or two this month, but it sure felt like a long stretch of I’ll never be warm again. I can’t wait to venture back out to Ashland on a warm spring day. We’ve taken photos there before (remember these?) but never in the gardens. What better place for spring outfit photos, right?
